Describe your work in one sentence:

My practice as an artist is based upon direct observation, memory and dynamism within the urban and natural landscape of my surroundings in Manchester and beyond.

Why do you do it?

I like observing the world around me, using my instinct and perception of the world, i like moving shapes around, playing around with composition and ideas,, playing around with materials.  My favourite materials to use are soft pastels, charcoal, oil pastels, pen and ink acrylic ink, watercolour, The feeling of using my hands, body and mind when drawing and painting, the sensuality, losing myself. layering marks and taking away marks, leaving a trace of an action.

What keeps you going (what’s your GRIT)?

The possibilities, the flux of everything.

What advice would you give to somebody wanting to become a ‘creative’?

We are all born creative, it's about staying creative for life, never ending learning.

Stay curious about the world around you, take risks  and experiment with materials, you will find a way.

Enjoy what you do.

It's ok to have a day job outside of the arts, everyday jobs, you meet interesting and varied people. The world is a big, beautiful and absurd place. dig out a special place for your creativity.

Tell us something unusual about yourself.

When i was a kid i believed "To Let" signs outside shops were public toilets.
